Cancellation & Refund Policy

These are the terms you agree to when you book with NextMile. We have written them in plain language on purpose — you should know exactly where you stand before you pay.

Enrolling and paying

You can browse the schedule freely. Booking a specific time requires payment first.

Payment comes before scheduling
You register, choose your course, and pay. Once payment is complete you get access to a calendar where you can select your times. Before scheduling is finalized you must confirm that you have read and agree to the cancellation and refund policy on this page.
A signed contract is required before your first lesson
You must download, print, sign, and hand in a physical copy of the student contract. You can book and pay before doing this, but no lesson can begin until we have the signed contract in hand. If we have not received it, you will get a reminder at least one day before your first scheduled lesson.

Scheduling, changes, and missed lessons

Changing your time before another student joins
While you are the only student booked into a course, you may move to another date or time yourself.
Once a second student has joined
Behind-the-Wheel and Adult Waiver courses run with more than one student. Once a second student has registered for your course, you can no longer reschedule it. You may still cancel, and the refund terms below apply.
If the other student cancels
If you are booked with another student and they cancel, you are not penalized for their decision. You may reschedule to another date or time at no charge, continue the course on your own, or take a full refund — your choice.
Missing a lesson — give us 24 hours
If you need to miss or move a scheduled lesson but are staying in the course, tell us at least 24 hours before it starts. With less than 24 hours' notice, a $30 fee applies and the lesson still has to be made up. In a genuine emergency, contact us as soon as you can. This fee does not apply if you are withdrawing from the course altogether — in that case the refund terms below apply instead, with no separate fee.
Missed lessons must be made up
If you miss any instructional period, a make-up session has to be scheduled — the hours are required, so they cannot simply be skipped. A make-up can be arranged when the other student from your lesson agrees to a time that suits you both, or when there is another student who also needs a make-up session. When one student misses, that lesson is cancelled for the pair.

Refunds — Behind-the-Wheel and Adult Waiver

These courses require a minimum enrollment and commit instructor time well in advance, which is why the window is longer than for our other programs.

7 or more days before your first lesson
You receive a full refund, less a 10% administrative fee.
1 to 6 days before your first lesson
No refund is issued. This is because these courses have a minimum enrollment of two students and the instructor's schedule is committed at that point.
After training has started
Behind-the-Wheel and Adult Waiver courses normally run with two students, and once training has begun no refund is available. The exception is a course running with a third student by prior arrangement: if you withdraw from one of those after training has started, you receive a pro-rated refund based on the sessions you have completed, and the course continues with the remaining two students.

Refunds — Private lessons and the Re-Examination course

48 hours or more before your lesson
You receive a full refund, less a 10% administrative fee.
Within 48 hours of your lesson
No refund is issued.
After lessons have started
If you have already begun your lessons, a pro-rated refund is available based on the sessions you have completed.

Refunds — Car Systems 101 and Car Maintenance 101

48 hours or more before the class
You receive a full refund, less a 10% administrative fee.
Within 48 hours of the class
No refund is issued.

Questions about any of this?

Ask before you book — we would rather answer a question up front than have you find out later. Call 703-594-7942 or email mark@nextmiledrivingacademy.com.

These terms are also set out in the student contract you sign before your first lesson. Where this page and your signed contract differ, the signed contract governs.
